Kazakhstan - The regime fears Vadim Kuramshin's campaigning against corruption and torture

Campaign Kazakhstan. Summary: well-known lawyer and human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin illegally imprisoned in Kazakhstan for twelve years!

"During his imprisonment he suffered brutal torture at the hands of prison guards and trustee prisoners. --- he regime has good reason to fear Vadim Kuramshin’s campaigning against corruption."

"Vadim was first arrested at the beginning of 2012 after he attempted to expose corruption at the Kordai border crossing in Southern Kazakhstan. Kept in prison for 7 months he was eventually found innocent by a jury of all the serious charges against him and released. He was again arrested in early December and this time taken to a court with no jury, where, in breach of many of the court’s own procedures, Vadim was pronounced guilty and sent to prison for 12 years on the same charges on which  he had first been acquitted.--- During his imprisonment he suffered brutal torture at the hands of prison guards and trustee prisoners. --- he regime has good reason to fear Vadim Kuramshin’s campaigning against corruption. --- The College of Advocates to which Raziya Nurmasheva belongs is equally shocked. This is the first time that such an action has been taken in Kazakhstan. Since then the situation has only become worse. Vadim reports that the KNB are demonstrating intense activity around his case making him worry that they will attempt to use other methods of getting rid of him." (read more in link)

Presskonferens: medverkande bla.

Press conference. Participants: Andrei Tsukanov and Vadim Kuramshins eldest son (lawyer) from the Committee for protection of Vadim Kuramshin and others. The unrighteous sentence (12 years imprisonement) is inhuman and a terrible disgrace! On December 12th 2012 he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the same accusations that he was acquitted of in August 2012! Vadims lawyers Razia Nurmasheva and his son have suffered reprisals in their professions due to the defense of Kuramshin. Nurmasheva did not get the opportunity to meet with her client Kuramshin in prison (Taraz) in order to prepare an appeal, but was instead excluded from the case. The reason is the president Nazarbayevs arbitrary procedure and political system.

On December 15, 2012 Special police from Kazhakstan (intelligence) made an attempt to kidnap one of Vadim Kuramshin's friends; Ainur Kurmanov from a central square in Moscow. Friends and leftists managed to protect him. There were two kidnapping attempts. One of the arrested was an officer of the Russian secret service. Inquiries were made to various Russian authorities as a result of the incident. The risk of a new kidnapping persists and could be motivated by the regime as "attempt of social hatred". The socialist movement appeals for support among the Russians (left) and the opposition to show solidarity in the defense of socialism rights in Kazakhstan and avoid extradition to his home country. Kurmanov is staying legally in Russia. Watch video of kidnap attempt!
